TUCO Charity Bike Ride raises £1800

More than 130 chronically hungry children will now benefit from a daily meal, thanks to colleagues in Campus Services.

Rob O’Connell, Acting Retail Services Manager, has recently taken on the TUCO (The University Catering Organisation) bike ride challenge and, on behalf of the University, £1,870 has been raised for Mary’s Meals.  TUCO’s chosen charity, Mary’s Meals aims to provide chronically hungry children with one meal every school day.  Thanks to Rob’s fundraising efforts, the charity can now provide 135 children with a meal on every day of the school year.  The retail cafes team in Campus Services will continue supporting Mary’s Meals throughout the next academic year, so we hope to push this total even higher.

It has been a busy time for fundraising in Campus Services, with the retail shops team choosing Hospiscare as their chosen charity for the next twelve months.  Retail shops colleagues, who have been supporting the charity for a number of years, kicked off this year’s partnership by handing over a cheque for £2,000, raised from the sale of carrier bags.  Hospiscare provide end-of-life care for people from Exeter, mid and east Devon, and have been supporting the local community for more than 30 years.  The Retail Shops team has several more fundraising activities planned for the year ahead.

Rob O’Connell said: “We’re delighted to be able to support these worthwhile charities and help raise money so that they can continue to do such good work.  We’re really proud that we can make such a positive contribution to organisations that really make a difference, and we’re all excited to see how much more we can help over the next academic year.”
