If you are looking for staff to fulfil part-time roles, cover ad-hoc shifts, or carry out temporary jobs then our Student Employment Team can help.

We provide a fast, friendly and efficient service supporting you with planned and short-notice vacancies. For planned or regular vacancies, you may wish to consider attending our Student Employment Fair, which offers an opportunity to speak with students face to face and promote your organsiation and available opportunities.

Many students wish to work alongside their studies and/or during university vacation periods to supplement their income and gain experience and are always looking for opportunities with organisations like yours!

How to place an advert for free using Handshake.

You can advertise paid part-time, 'casual' or vacation roles to University of Exeter students for free.

Vacancies will be visible to all current students (undergraduate and post-graduate across all our campuses) and to University of Exeter alumni.

To promote your vacancies, you will need to register on our careers platform, Handshake, which is where we advertise employment opportunities and activities to our students and graduates.

You can connect to the University of Exeter via Handshake here. After registering, you will be able to upload your vacancies, which will be reviewed by a member of staff before going 'live.'

Please ensure you have read our Vacancy Advertising Guidelines thoroughly before uploading your vacancy. Failure to comply with these guidelines may result in a delay to your vacancy being approved on our system and/or your vacancy being declined by our team.

Please note:

1) Submitting your vacancies through Handshake is strongly recommended as this is the fastest route to getting your vacancies live on our system. Vacancies submitted by email may take significantly longer to go live.

2) We do not accept part-time volunteering roles. These are currently managed by our Students' Guild in Exeter and our Student Union in Cornwall. You can find further information on how to promote volunteering opportunities across our different campuses here:

3) Please note that we do not promote roles for private individuals, e.g. personal care workers/support workers, 1:1 tutoring, etc. However we will promote roles of this nature if they are advertised through established agencies.

Meet the team

Becs Lenthall | Student Employment Officer

Becs leads on sourcing and promoting part-time jobs for students, delivers the University of Exeter Employment Awards, Student Employment Week and Student Employment Fair, and works with the business community in the southwest to develop opportunities for Exeter students and graduates in the local area. Becs also helps employers wishing to engage with the university to boost student and graduate employability, by signposting them to the services they can access through the EESE Team to help meet their business needs.

Ella Duffy | Student Employment Assistant

Ella is a Psychology student and has worked for the Student Employment Team since September 2022, securing her role through the Student Campus Partnership Scheme. Ella has a keen interest in marketing and provides fantastic support to the team by creating design work and content for social media, sourcing part-time roles and uploading them on Handshake, assisting with admin and supporting on event delivery.

Andrea Hodges | Employment Schemes Manager

Andrea oversees student employment at the university including internships, graduate recruitment, funding schemes (A2i), and career mentoring. Andrea works with academics, professional services, and external employers to create employment opportunities for all students and graduates. As an experienced education professional, Andrea is passionate about the ongoing development of the service and is always looking at new initiatives and opportunities to collaborate.
