Studentships

All studentships funded by an industrial partner will require an agreement to set out the terms of the project. A formal written agreement, set out in advance, between the university, external partner and the student, is essential as it can minimise the scope for problems or misunderstanding later.  A written agreement provides an essential foundation for the project because over the three years of a research studentship expectations and personnel, particularly in the external organisation, may well change. The University, the external partner and the student will all need to be party to this agreement.

The agreement should be put in place before the start of a studentship project, ideally as soon as possible after the student has been confirmed, although we can beginning drafting before this information is known. For CASE (Co-operative Award in Science and Industry) and Industrial CASE studentships an agreement will be required once the studentship has been approved by the specific Research Council. Please note; some Research Councils require the terms of the agreement to be agreed at the application stage – you should always check the requirements.

We deal with the agreements for all studentships; if you require a studentship agreement to be put in place we can draft, negotiate and send out the agreement for signature on your behalf.  Please complete the studentship questionnaire in order to provide us with more information on the project.
