Professor Dave Hosken welcomes delegates to the first Cornwall Campuses Employer Forum

Inaugural Employer Forum held at Penryn

The first University of Exeter Cornwall Campuses Employer Forum has been held to showcase the ways in which the university can work with local businesses.

The annual event provides an opportunity for employers and key university staff to discuss potential collaborations such as internships and research projects. Representatives from the Cornwall campuses share information about the University’s latest initiatives. Employers then have the opportunity to inform and shape the next academic year’s employability activities.

Proceedings were opened by Professor David Hosken, Dean of Strategic Development for the Cornwall campuses. He said: “This event is all about how we can help businesses and how we can work together for our mutual benefit.

The University of Exeter has a long history in Cornwall. Its original charter was to provide higher education for Devon and Cornwall, and we are proud of what we have done here. Building on that history, we hope that this event will be the first of many that help businesses understand what we do and provide them with an opportunity to share ideas with us about how the University can further help the Cornish economy.”

Emma King, Graduate Recruitment Officer at Stephens Scown, was one of the participants in the Forum. She said: “I found it very useful to attend the forum and hear what the University is currently working on and how we as an employer can get involved. It was very interesting to hear about all the different areas within the University and I was pleasantly surprised with the mix and diversity on offer.

As a firm that has a strong regional focus it is great to be involved, and I am looking forward to following up with the contacts I made on the day.”
