Student Communications and Social Media

Our team is responsible for communicating with students and managing the University’s social media accounts to reflect the richness and energy of university life. Our student communications staff deliver key messages and provide another channel for feedback. Our social media staff work across the institution to deliver up-to-date information, deliver marketing for recruitment and give and insight into the life of the University.

Our channels of communication include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, You Tube and LinkedIn, plus student email newsletters. We work closely with our students’ unions and staff across the University to ensure we provide the best service possible. We also help with content for the student recruitment team, our alumni and others.

Student Communications team

The Student Communications team is headed up by Jo Cole – Student Communications Manager.

Student Communications Manager

My career began in journalism as a reporter and newsreader working for the BBC, ITV and regional newspapers. I was also the first Communications Manager for Eton College – responsible for seeing the famous school through a momentous year which included a change of Headmaster and the opening of two large-scale building projects.

During my career at the University I have headed up communications for the alumni and fundraising department, as well as some of the largest scale capital projects including the Forum.

I recently achieved a Professional Certificate in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

When not at work I'm blessed to be mum to a young daughter and we take karate classes together. I’ve also just completed my first children’s book, Ugly Mum.

Communications Assistant

I joined the University as both a member of staff and a student in September 2019; as a student I am continuing my English and Creative Writing studies with a Masters in Creative Writing.

As a member of the ‘Student Communications’ team I support a group of Student Communication Ambassadors to generate mixed media content for the University’s various social channels. I am also jointly responsible for setting up a series of wellbeing talks called ‘Mind Over Natter’ designed to give students and staff tips on how they can improve their own wellbeing.

Previously I have worked as a Trust and Grants Fundraiser at Dorothy House Hospice Care and a Student Services Executive at Unite Students. When off campus you can often find me hiking, climbing and travelling (preferably all at the same time).
