Multimedia Design Studio

The Multimedia Design team create and deliver both digital and printed design solutions. We work with colleagues across all colleges and services, as well as partner organisations and external businesses, to create the full range of marketing materials including prospectuses, advertisements and corporate publications.

Our expert designers provide advice on creating the most effective design materials to ensure your message has impact and your audience is reached through professional, innovative and contemporary design.

We also work on a number of rebrand projects that require skills in other areas such as interior design, animation and video editing. Our other areas of responsibility include print procurement, and overseeing the University’s visual identity to ensure the organisation is represented consistently across all media and digital platforms.

What we offer:

Branding

Our design team will work with you to create the branding your department or school needs to reach your audience and create a distinctive profile amongst the University materials. We can advise you on use of colours, materials, merchandise, quality and design elements.

Web and Digital Design

Our specialist designers offer a complete Web and Digital Design service encompassing websites, social media assets, email templates and web banners.

Animation and Film

We create distinct and professional video marketing strategies covering everything from short animations to high-quality video for a diverse range of clients from public sector organisations to sports and trade associations, charities and SMEs.

Print and Merchandise

Invaluable for creating the right impact at events, fairs and exhibitions, the Multimedia Design Studio can help you. We offer a large range of items such as mugs, lanyards, pens, notepads and polo shirts which can be printed with your department branding and the University logo.

Photography

We can provide you with advice on choosing a photographer from our register of freelancers who have all worked for the University. You will also need to complete a Model consent form‌, be informed on data protection and also to have read and understand the guidelines for briefing your photographer.

Illustration

We offer a wide range of illustrative styles from hand drawn to digitally created pieces based on your requirements.

Charges

Design time

Design time is charged at £42 per hour, whilst animation and film editing is charged at £50 per hour (internal clients only) with a minimum of 30 mins charged for each job.

Design time charges are VAT exempt (internal clients only).

Printing and production

A mark up of 10% will be applied to the printing estimate to cover:

Associated administrative tasks such as liaising with printers and suppliers;
Provision of estimates;
Advice on suitable materials;
Provision of proofs for your approval;
Changes or additions to text or design elements;
Following up on delivery and coordinating sign off of job.

VAT is complicated in printing and production. Some items such as invitations, forms, posters, exhibition stands, pens and bags are expected to attract VAT. Items such as brochures, leaflets and prospectuses are exempt.
