The proposed landscaping around the new building is sympathetic to the existing informal parkland setting. The main design elements include:

  • Existing trees and shrubs/hedges are retained where possible
  • Species rich grass is reinstated around the north, west and south edges of the building
  • Ornamental shrubs proposed between North Park Road and the north elevation of the new building
  • A native hedge/ornamental shrubs is proposed on a 1:3 sloping embankment fronting the retaining wall on the south side of the new service compound
  • Ornamental shrubs, in raised beds adjacent to the main entrance
  • Additional replacement trees will be planted on other sites around the campus (locations to be confirmed)
  • Concrete slab paving will form a maintenance access path around all sides of the building and hard landscaped area at the main entrance
  • Tarmacadam surface to the service compound
