The GESIS - Leibniz-Institute for the Social Sciences is seeking a Senior Researcher to work in the CSES Secretariat as co-manager of CSES data and documentation production and CSES operations.  The position is located in Mannheim, Germany.  Senior Researcher (with doctoral degree), (salary group 14 TV-L, full time).  Preferred start date: April 1, 2014.  The deadline for applications is February 3, 2014.

The European Election Studies Association (EES-A) Board are now inviting contributions to the design of a post-electoral voter survey of the 2014 European Parliament elections.

07.11.2013 CSES: Call for nominations for Module 5 Planning Committee members

The CSES Module 4 Planning Committee is nearing the end of its work, and a new CSES Module 5 Planning Committee will take its place beginning next year.  According to CSES guidelines, the CSES Planning Committee membership must turn over approximately 50% from one module to the next. A Nominating Committee has been established to consider the composition of the new Committee. The CSES Module 5 Nominating Committee consists of Christopher Anderson (Cornell University), Ulises Beltran (Centro de Investigacion y Docencia Economica - CIDE), Michal Shamir (Tel Aviv University), and André Blais.

31.10.2013 Postdoctoral researchers (x3) for ACCESS EUROPE

ACCESS EUROPE is an UvA-VUA  Amsterdam Academic Alliance initiative. As a joint venture of the University of Amsterdam and the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, the Amsterdam Centre for Contemporary European Studies (ACCESS EUROPE) aims to establish a new institutional platform for research, education and public debate on the European Union and its member states.
Starting in January 2014, ACCESS EUROPE  offers three Postdoctoral research positions for the duration of one year. The selected candidates will be working in one of the participating faculties of the UvA or the VUA.

14.10.2013 Vacancies at University of Exeter, x4 lecturers in quantitative social science

These posts are part of the University of Exeter Q-Step Centre. Q-Step is a GBP 19.5 million programme designed to promote a step-change in quantitative social science training. Exeter is one of fifteen universities across the UK selected to deliver specialist undergraduate programmes, including new courses, work placements and pathways to postgraduate study. The posts are Political Science (any field), International Relations, Criminology and Sociology.  Deadline for online applications 13 November 2013.

23.09.2013 Vacancies at UvA, x2 Postdoctoral Researchers

The two postdoctoral researchers will work within the UvA Research Priority Area Communication. One position is in the field of communication effects and politics, in particular communication effects on public opinion and electoral behavior in European politics. The other position is in the field of communication effects and well-being/health, in particular communication effects and psycho-social well being. The postdocs will work with senior faculty to develop research and grant proposals in these areas.  Deadline for applications 29 September 2013.

The next ExIStA event will take place on Thursday 10 October at the University of Exeter where Norman Fenton, Professor of Risk Information Management at Queen Mary London University, will be giving a seminar on "Probability and the Law".

22.08.2013 Call for possible themes and questions for CSES Module 5

In order to begin the process of identifying a topic for CSES Module 5, a Task Force has been established, consisting of Sara Binzer Hobolt (London School of Economics and Political Science), Radoslaw Markowski (Polish Academy of Sciences) and Nicolas Sauger (Sciences Po). The mission of the CSES Module 5 Task Force is to identify gaps in the research that CSES Module 5 might address, and canvass possible substantive themes for the new module. The purpose of this note is to ask members of the CSES user community, to suggest possible themes and questions that the Task Force should investigate for CSES Module 5.

02.08.2013 Associate Research Fellow/Research Fellow (Politics) University of Exeter

Associate Research Fellow/Research Fellow, Department of Politics, University of Exeter -College of Social Sciences and International Studies.  The job is available on a full or part time basis from 1 October 2013 for a fixed term to 30 June 2014. The Department is a leading politics department within the UK and the post is to work with Professor Oliver James on a European Commission Seventh Framework Programme Project ‘Coordinating for Cohesion in the Public Sector of the Future’.

09.07.2013 ExIStA's first conference: Talking Data South West

Talking Data South West was the region's first conference focusing on all aspects of data: from collection and analysis through to visualisation and communication.   We had a fantastic response with over 100 delegates representing more than 50 organisations from around the region.  It was the first event to bring together and showcase the different data activities in the South West and provided a unique opportunity to develop data skills and to network with other regional businesses.  The conference included presentations from a number of keynote speakers from national organisations as well as presentation from local organisations and a poster session.

The German Society for Electoral Research (DGfW) is happy to announce that for the first time it will award the DGfW Research Prize and the DGfW Prize for Young Researchers for excellent analyses primarily or exclusively based on data of the German Longitudinal Election Study (GLES).

30.04.2013 International Summer School: Revolutions and Democracy. Regional Perspectives on the Arab Spring

Through a focus on the political processes in Egypt (which will be placed in a regional and international context) students from all over the globe will gather and gain a unique insight into the precise dynamics of such transitional processes. Students will be presented with a unique opportunity to engage on a first-hand basis with local and international academics, activists and civil society organisations that have been closely involved with the uprisings and the subsequent transformation processes.

22.04.2013 ELECDEM researchers present papers at the 71st Annual MPSA conference

8 paper presentations were given by members of the ELECDEM project at the MPSA Conference which is one of the largest political science conferences in the discipline. In 2012, more than 5,200 presenters from 56 countries throughout the world presented more than 4,200 papers.

Marco Steenbergen will teach this short course in May 2013.

25.03.2013 CCNER workshop on Multi-level Data Structures in Cross-National Electoral Research

This workshop is aimed at providing training and support for postgraduate research students working with cross-national survey data.  A number of bursaries for PGR students will be available.  This event is organised by Comparative Cross-National Electoral Research [CCNER], a four year project funded by the British Economic & Social Research Council hosted by the Centre for Elections Media and Parties at the University of Exeter.

20.02.2013 British Academy Newton International Fellowships

A new round of Newton International Fellowships - an initiative to fund research collaborations and improve links between UK and overseas researchers - has now opened. The Newton International Fellowships are funded by the British Academy and the Royal Society and aim to attract the most promising early-career post-doctoral researchers from overseas in the fields of the humanities, the natural, physical and social sciences.
