Trans Rights Are Human Rights

The University of Exeter is proud to be among the signatory organisations supporting Stonewall’s “Trans Rights Are Human Rights” campaign this week. We value trans people as our employees, colleagues and students and are committed to ensuring that we safeguard trans rights at the University and in our wider communities in Devon and Cornwall.

Imelda Rogers, explains:

I am proud to be an ally to the trans community as a part of our commitment to inclusivity, we want people to be their best selves at work and to create a working environment that enables this. I strive to understand and support the issues facing our trans colleagues and students, and as an ally share this with the teams I lead. 

As a team HR are truly committed to trans equality and strive to demonstrate this by making our workplace, services and products trans inclusive.

We are working in partnership with the LGBTQ+ Staff Network to make our spaces as inclusive and safe as possible. The Network and its Trans and Non-binary café are open to all staff and PGR students of all sexual orientations and gender identities who would like a secure space to fully express themselves without fear of intimidation or harassment. If you have witnessed or been affected by transphobia or any other forms of discrimination, harassment or bullying, you can make a report in confidence through Exeter Speaks Out, using either the anonymous or informal reporting tools.

There is also a range of support and guidance available for both staff and students on our LGBTQ+ Equality pages, including guidance for managers, our Trans and LGBTQ+ Inclusion booklets and information about our Gender Identity and Transitioning Policy.
