Every year on 8 March, our University community comes together to celebrate International Women’s Day. IWD aims to celebrate the diversity of our community and work together to challenge abuse or discrimination faced by women and reflect on steps we can take to create spaces and structures that support women to succeed and thrive; aligning to our value of being a welcoming and compassionate university.
Through listening to students, colleagues and alumni, and from within our Gender Equality Group, we have come a long way on furthering gender equality but recognise that there is still more to be done. We know that this pandemic has created disproportionate impacts for various groups within our community, including women. Considering this, our IWD will be following the UN theme of “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world”. Many events are happening for IWD throughout the week commencing 8 March, beginning with a ‘Women of Influence’ speaker event with our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Lisa Roberts. You can view the full list of events on our events web page.
As part of the International Women's Day campaign, we also invited nominations of inspirational women from our students and colleagues. These nominations are displayed in a newsletter format and can be viewed here. You can click on “read more” under each article to read the full nomination text.
