Planning for the Technical Services Conference 2022 is in full swing and the programme is in the process of being finalised. The theme of the day is ‘Career Development’ as one of the key pillars of the Technician Commitment, and we have a whole host of exciting speakers and workshops for you to join in throughout the day, not to mention some great sponsors who can’t wait to meet you all.

Join us from 9:30am in Cross Keys, where you can collect your name badges and begin to browse our sponsor tables. The day will begin officially at 10:00am for the introductory session, including an opening speech from Neil Gow, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Research and Impact, following into an active workshop by Adam Lusby, Senior Lecturer in Entrepreneurship, which will get attendees thinking and working as a team.

After a short break, the morning session will continue with our keynote speaker: Nik Ogryzko, UKRI Talent Programme Manager, to discuss the UKRI Technician Commitment Action Plan and what it means for the future development of the national technical community followed by Denise McLean, Senior Research Technician at the University of Nottingham. Denise will be speaking about her work advocating for technicians and getting involved with external networks and institutions (such as her extensive involvement with the NTDC, IST, TALENT Commission and more) for your personal and professional development.

A spot of delicious lunch later, the afternoon will be broken into two workshop sessions of your choosing, available when you book via our form. Run by experts from both the University of Exeter and further afield, the workshops will be on Interview Skills, Emotional Intelligence, Professional Registration, Insight into the University’s Research Facilities, Making Cross-Institutional Connections, and a tour of St Luke’s technical facilities.

The day will be pulled together at the end with our Technical Services Award Ceremony, with awards given for staff who have fully embodied the Technician Commitment pillars: Recognition, Visibility, Career Development, and Sustainability.

As you can see, we have an exciting and busy day planned and we can’t wait for you to join us.
