4 Fine Coffee Shops In The Heart Of Exeter

Ask anyone to discuss English stereotypes and for certain tea will fall into the equation. But, these times they are a changing. With over 70 million cups of coffee being consumed across the UK on a daily basis, it’s safe to say that we are fast becoming a nation of coffee lovers, soon to be coffee geeks.

Café Culture

The City of Exeter is no exception to the rule, with the café culture booming to say the least. Opting for no frills bed and breakfast accommodation, within spitting distance of the historic city centre frees up extra pennies for that all important caffeine fix.

There are a plethora of desirable coffee shops to choose from – here’s just a few of our favourite:

1 Devon Coffee

‘Nice coffee made by  nice people’ – this quirky little coffee shop sits tucked away neatly on Queen Street – blink and you’ll miss it. Not only is the coffee exceptional but the surroundings and atmosphere will leave you wanting more. A real independent coffee shop flying the flag high for Devon.

2 Café Artigiano

Step into this relaxed, continental style Espresso and Wine bar and you won’t want to leave. It’s stylish interior, award-winning baristas and outstanding selection of artisan food, all prepared in house, work hand in hand to create the ultimate coffee experience. And if that isn’t enough – stay long enough and you might just find yourself indulging in one or two sumptuous cocktails.

3 Exploding Bakery

If cake comes first and coffee second – then this is the place for you. With owners that clearly share a passion for all things cake, there is never a shortage of unique flavours and bakes to tempt the visitor. Seating is limited in this cosy little hive of activity but if you’re lucky enough to grab a seat you can witness these talented bakers in the throws of cake creation.

4 Boston Tea Party

This family owned West Country chain never fails to impress. If coffee’s not your thing then you might prefer to indulge in one of their freshly prepared smoothies. It’s eclectic mix of furniture creates the perfect cosy space to kick back and perhaps succumb to temptation as you peruse the extensive menu of feel good food!

Ask yourself, do you really need a television in your bed and breakfast accommodation when you stay in Exeter? With all these coffee shops and more to explore, there’s no time to be sat in your room.
