5 Summer Walks To Enjoy During Your Bed And Breakfast Break In Exeter

One of the best things about staying in a bed and breakfast in Exeter is the amazing range of walks you have nearby. Thanks to its location Exeter offers easy access to coastal walks, moorland treks and forest hikes of varying lengths and difficulties. In fact there are so many that you could just pick a direction and walk and you’d be guaranteed to find one.

But we thought we’d take the hassle out of it and offer up five summer walks you can enjoy while staying at a bed and breakfast in Exeter.

Exeter To Topsham Canal Walk

If you want a nice easy stroll that takes in Exeter’s beautiful quay area and the picturesque village of Topsham this 4 mile route is for you. You’ll wander down along the River Exe to the Turf Locks giving wonderful views. Be sure to keep an eye out for wildlife including various species of birds in the marshlands. From here you can catch a ferry across to Topsham and explore this quaint village and enjoy a drink and some lunch in one of its many cafes and restaurants.

Alphinbrook and Hambeer Lane

How many places can lay claim to a countryside walk with the city limits? This walk takes you across gently undulating terrain shaded by trees before following the Alphinbrook and offering fine views of Ide and the Haldon Hills. It’s a circular route and can be reached from your bed and breakfast in Exeter by foot or bus with ease.

Exmouth To Sidmouth

This stretch of the stunning South West Coast Path is an easy walk but at 12 miles you’ll want to allow yourself ample time. After arriving at Exmouth you can head towards Orrcombe Point which is the beginning of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. Things get a little more rugged as you approach Budleigh Salterton and you could stop here for refreshments before pressing on to Sidmouth. You’ll take in rivers, fields and woodland on your way and once you arrive at Sidmouth be sure to see all this beautiful Regency town has to offer. Then hop on a bus and you can make your way back to your bed and breakfast in Exeter for some much deserved rest.

Haytor Rocks And Hound Tor

To access this wonderful Dartmoor walk you’ll need to travel by car from your bed and breakfast in Exeter and out to the iconic Haytor. After parking up near Saddle Tor, this 7.5 mile route will take you over the rugged moorland and around several striking granite tors. When you arrive at Haytor be sure to explore the abandoned quarry. Haytor granite was used in the reconstruction of London Bridge.

Haldon Forest Park

If you fancy a woodland walk then a trip up to Haldon Forest is for you. It’s possible to reach via a series of buses but driving will be easiest from your bed and breakfast in Exeter. There are several marked trails set in over 3,500 acres of beautifully curated forest from easy strolls to more demanding forest hikes. Or if you fancy you can even hire a bike to explore the area.
