Stay with us and Discover Devon…

Not only are you a stone’s throw from the thriving historical City centre, but if you want to get out and about you have the whole of Devon at your fingertips. Whether you are here for a short-stay or your annual holiday, leave your accommodation behind and take time to discover the delights of Devon.

Here are our top 5 recommendations to suit all ages and tastes:

1.Bicton Park

These grade 1 listed gardens are located between Exeter and England’s Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site and provide all year round entertainment for people of all ages, including historic glasshouses, a countryside museum, the Bicton Woodland Railway train ride, nature trail, maze, mini golf, indoor and outdoor children’s play complexes, restaurant and shop.

2. Escot

Situated in the heart of East Devon, Escot is 220 acres of private parkland where visitors can explore the countryside and discover wildlife including birds of prey and rare red squirrels.

3. Powderham Castle

Located in a deer park on the banks of the River Exe, Powderham Castle has been  open for visitors to enjoy since 1959. Must-sees are the Georgian grand staircase and the eighteenth century music room. The original Victorian Kitchen is open to visitors to gain an understanding of how life would have been below stairs in the Earl’s household in the 19th century.

4. Haldon Forest

Managed by the Forestry Commission England, Haldon Forest has 3,500 acres of woodland to explore, whether you want the exhilaration of a mountain biking experience, to swing from the trees at Go Ape or just a quiet gentle walk in beautiful woodlands.

5. Castle Drogo

This National Trust property is known as the ‘last castle in England’ is currently undergoing restoration work to save the building, but there is still an opportunity to wander around exhibitions which tell the stories of Castle Drogo and explore new rooms, never before open to the public. Visitors can see see the building work in progress and get up close to our treasures on display. Outside the castle is a Lutyens-designed terraced garden, which provides dramatic views of Dartmoor.

This barely scrapes the surface of all that is on offer in this fruitful county. Be sure to plan your days so you don’t miss out. And if you do? Why not book your next bed and breakfast stay with Event Exeter before you leave.
