Exe-X South West Alumnae Group Women in Research lecture with Dr Laura Sangha

Event details

How the wills of Tudor, Stuart and Georgian women provide a window into their lives

Join Dr Laura Sangha, Associate Professor of Early Modern History in the University of Exeter’s Archaeology and History department and Co-Director of Exeter's Centre for Early Modern Studies, for a fascinating insight into her incredible research on the hidden histories, relationships and secrets revealed by the wills of Tudor, Stuart and Georgian women – often the only record they left behind for future generations.

Laura is Co-Investigator on the Leverhulme Project The Material Culture of Wills, England 1540-1790, using specialist AI software to auto-generate transcriptions of 25,000 wills, working with a team of ‘citizen social scientists’ and has also worked with composer, lyricist and performer Chris Hoban to create a collection of songs which show the stories behind these historic documents.

After the talk there will be a Q&A session.

There is no charge for this event and refreshments will be provided; tickets are available here.
