DESCRIPTION:Please do join the Department of English and Creative Writing on Thursday 7 May 2026 at 4.30pm (Henderson Lecture Theatre, XFI Building) for this year's Teagarden Lecture, which will be given by Professor Paul Gilroy, Emeritus Professor of Humanities (UCL).&nbsp; Paul Gilroy is one of the most insightful and influential thinkers of the last four decades. He is a Fellow of the British Academy, the Royal Society of Literature, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He was awarded the Holberg Prize in 2019, given &ldquo;to scholars who have made outstanding contributions to research in the humanities, social sciences, law or theology,&rdquo; and the Holberg Committee praised Paul as &ldquo;one of the most challenging and inventive figures in contemporary scholarship. His work has influenced, and, in some cases, reshaped several fields and sub-fields, including cultural studies, critical race studies, sociology, history, anthropology and African-American studies.&rdquo; The talk starts at 4.30pm and there will be a drinks reception after the lecture from approximately 6pm to 7pm.
