DESCRIPTION:CYPW Network Seminar: Bath Mental Health Research Group The CYP Wellbeing @Exeter Research Network are pleased to invite you to this HYBRID seminar with the Bath Mental Health Research Group. It’s taking place on Tuesday 21st July from 12:00-13:00 in Baring court 2.17, University of Exeter St Luke’s Campus and via Teams https://teams.microsoft.com/meet/36161763531620?p=i7YfQdWh50ghN5oeEk (Meeting ID: 361 617 635 316 20 Passcode: Sm3QN3rE) Staff and students from all disciplines are welcomed. Abstract The Bath Mental Health Research Group (MHRG) aims to improve mental health and wellbeing in young people aged 12–25 across Bath, North-East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire. Our team within the MHRG specifically focuses on: 1) understanding pathways from trauma and early life adversity to severe mental health difficulties, and 2) developing and evaluating early interventions which aim to prevent later onset of mental health difficulties. In this seminar, Prof Pamela Jacobsen will introduce the group and our overall stream of research; Caledonia Swindells-MacLeod will describe a protocol for a study exploring if early life experiences predict individual differences in young people’s physiological and psychological responses to a stress task, and if a single session of vigorous exercise changes how young people respond to that stress task; Dr Tom Jenkins will present findings from a scoping review on what makes psychosocial interventions acceptable for young people with ACEs; and Iona Jewitt will present a protocol for a realist evaluation of non-clinical wellbeing interventions delivered within Bath, North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire. Biographies Tom Jenkins- Tom is a post-doctoral research associate working to co-develop and evaluate mental health interventions for young people at risk of developing severe mental health conditions. Tom is a mixed-methods researcher and passionate about working with people with lived experience. He has previously worked on projects about experiences of dehumanisation, psychosis, and mindfulness. Caledonia Swindells-MacLeod - Caledonia (Callie) is a PhD student with an interest in improving physical and mental health outcomes for children and young people, and a particular interest in psychological and lifestyle interventions. In the MHRG she works on exploring early interventions for trauma exposed youth, with a focus on physical activity interventions. Callie is based in the Department for Health, which offers opportunities to examine potential mechanisms underpinning intervention effects, including factors such as stress reactivity. Iona Jewitt - Iona is a researcher focusing on digital interventions for mental health difficulties and improving outcomes after Adverse Childhood Experiences. Iona has experience of delivering research testing interventions aimed to improve mental health difficulties, and supporting individuals on their participation journey throughout a research project. Iona is passionate about improving the availability and accessibility of research opportunities, creating space for individuals to have a voice in what matters to them. Iona has experience working in a range of NHS services, including training and working as a Clinical Associate Psychologist within NHS mental health services. Professor Pamela Jacobsen - Pamela is the Director of the Bath Mental Health Research Group and the Principal Investigator. Pamela specialises in developing and evaluating psychological interventions, including cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) and mindfulness-based interventions. Pamela is a psychosis expert in both her research and clinical work, and is a HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist, with a background in NHS practice working across inpatient and community services for adults with complex needs. Pamela has led the founding of the MHRG and is responsible for the overall running of the MHRG, ensuring that the mission statement of the MHRG is embedded throughout all its activities in working to improve the health and wellbeing of children and young people in the Bath, Swindon, and Wiltshire region and beyond. Please forward to colleagues and networks; these events are open to all students and staff. If you have a suggestion of a speaker for a future network seminar or would like us to promote your event, please contact us cypwellbeing@exeter.ac.uk .
