Dr Peter O'Rourke

EAP teacher

Peter teaches on the Insessional programme, delivering guidance and support sessions for international undergraduate and postgraduate students from a range of academic disciplines. He also provides one-to-one tutorials for students from across the university. He began working for INTO University of Exeter in 2013 and has taught across several programmes.

Peter has taught English in academic, business and general contexts since 2007, when he completed a CELTA in Poland. He has since taught in Italy and the UK. 

Peter’s academic background is in the fields of Drama/Theatre/Performance Studies, and he has disseminated his research in publications and in presentations at conferences. He completed his PhD in Theatre Studies within the School of English at the University of Leeds, investigating the interrelations of performance and spectatorship at the Venice Carnival. Prior to undertaking his doctorate, he completed a MA in Irish Theatre and Culture at Queen’s University Belfast, where he was the recipient of the inaugural Brian Friel Scholarship. His MA thesis analysed metatheatricality in the plays of Irish dramatist Thomas Kilroy. Peter also has a BA (Hons) in Drama from the University of Hull. He has taught in Drama/Theatre at the Universities of Exeter, Leeds and Hull.
