Module description

This accounting module provides an introduction to financial and management accounting techniques.  You are supported to analyse accounting information to inform financial decisions.  This module provides an introduction to accounting that may be used as a basis for further study or to help you to understand accounting terminology and techniques that will be very useful in any business related studies.

Module aims - intentions of the module

The aim of this module is to provide an introduction to fundamental financial and management accounting approaches. You will be supported to apply knowledge to analyse accounting information of businesses.

  • 4. Use management accounting techniques to inform long term decision making
  • 5. Analyse and interpret financial information using ratios

Re-assessment notes

Deferral – if you miss an assessment for reasons judged legitimate by the Mitigation Committee, the applicable assessment will normally be deferred.  See ‘Details of re-assessment’ for the form that assessment usually takes. When deferral occurs there is ordinarily no change to the overall weighting of that assessment.

Referral – if you have failed the module overall (ie a final overall mark of less than 40% achieved) you will be required to take a re-sit exam (open book).  Only your performance in this exam will count towards your final module grade.  A grade of 40% will be awarded if the examination is passed.
