Description - summary of the module content
Module description
This module will help you develop a good understanding of the current global issues that affect different aspects of international life and the content will enhance your ability to relate theory to practice in your other modules. You will critically analyse a range of current global issues related to, for example, climate change and the environment, globalization, inequality and poverty, food security, health, technology, gender and society. This module will develop your critical thinking, critical reading and academic writing skills. It will also provide opportunities to improve your performance in seminar participation and delivery of group presentations.
Module aims - intentions of the module
You will gain a good understanding of the current global issues that are affecting different aspects of international life through weekly lectures and seminars. You will develop and apply the important academic skills of critical thinking, critical reading and appropriate academic writing and taking part in seminars. You will have an opportunity to research the impact of a range of contemporary issues on your own countries, comparing this to other parts of the world. You will present your research in a group presentation and an extended piece of writing.

Re-assessment notes
Deferral– if you miss an assessment for reasons judged legitimate by the Mitigation Committee, the applicable assessment will normally be deferred. See ‘Details of reassessment’ for the form that assessment usually takes. When deferral occurs there is ordinarily no change to the overall weighting of that assessment.
Referral– if you have failed the module overall (i.e. a final overall module mark of less than 40%) you will be required to take a re-sit exam and re-submission. Only your performance in this exam will count towards your final module grade. A grade of 40% will be awarded if the examination is passed.
