Description - summary of the module content
Module description
This module covers the field of investment. It describes the main participants, their objectives and constraints, and the major investment markets. The module covers investment strategies for bonds and equities, and evaluating the risk and return of different investment opportunities. Portfolio optimisation and asset allocation are covered, as well as how to measure portfolio performance.
Module aims - intentions of the module
The aim of this module is to equip students with a fundamental knowledge of investment theory and portfolio management. In particular the module provides students with a rigorous understanding of the concepts and techniques used by finance specialists, enabling students to apply these techniques in practical application of investment analysis. Through a combination of lectures, seminars and using basic modelling techniques, students will be provided with a foundation in financial theory and practice, providing useful skills and knowledge for further modules in finance.

Re-assessment notes
Deferral– if you miss an assessment for reasons judged legitimate by the Mitigation Committee, the applicable assessment will normally be deferred. See ‘Details of reassessment’ for the form that assessment usually takes. When deferral occurs, there is ordinarily no change to the overall weighting of that assessment.
Referral– if you have failed the module overall (i.e. a final overall module mark of less than 40%) you will be required to carry out an individual viva(see ‘Details of Re-assessment). A maximum grade of 40% will be awarded for this module.
