Dilys Thorp

Teacher

Dilys has a long track record in teaching EAP as well as in training teachers and teacher trainers in this field, both overseas (China, Hong Kong, Japan, Eastern Europe, Oman, S. Africa) as well as in the UK. Before joining INTO she was, for 17 years, a Senior Lecturer in Linguistics and English Language Teaching at the University of West London. She has also held academic appointments at the Universities of Aston, Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol, where, amongst other areas, she was the Module Lead in Materials Evaluation and Development on the Masters in Education programme. She has had a long involvement with BALEAP where she has given a number of conference papers (several published) and has also served as the institutional representative. Other relevant experience includes an appointment as Research Fellow at Birmingham University investigating the nature of IELTS answers to the Writing exam, and an appointment as Research Fellow at the Peninsula Medical School to investigate the nature of reflective writing.  Her interests are wide ranging and include inter-ethnic communication and academic writing, particularly looking at stance. At INTO she has created and run a Graduate Diploma course in Law and Legal English, and has also  taught in-sessional and pre-sessional law students for several years.
