ERDAS Imagine

This software is purchased by the Geography Department at the University of Exeter.

For University Managed PC's, ERDAS is available for installation via the Company Portal.

University of Exeter staff and students are entitled to also install ERDAS software on personal PCs – strictly for non-commercial use. Users must first install ERDAS Foundation, and can then install Imagine if required.

Software is obtained by user registration and then free download from:

  • Ensure you are logged in with administrator rights on the PC you are using
  • Ensure you have at least 4Gb of available file space on your computer
  • If you have an earlier version of ERDAS, please remove this first using the Uninstaller program before attempting to re-install or upgrade.
  • Create a folder called 'Foundations' in a known location
  • Double click the downloaded file to open it and then select 'Extract all files' at the top.
  • Extract the files in the ZIP file to the 'Foundations' folder you have just created. This will be expand to around 1.46Gb
  • Double-click on the extracted ‘setup.exe’ file
  • Click the '+' to expand the menu - then select the latest version of 'ERDAS Foundations' and click 'Install'
  • Click ‘Install’, ‘Next’ and accept the licence agreement when prompted. Then click 'Install'.
  • This will install the downloaded and extracted software.
  • Create a folder called 'Foundations' in a known location
  • Double click the downloaded file to open it and then select 'Extract all files' at the top.
  • Extract the files in the ZIP file to the 'Foundations' folder you have just created. This will be expand to around 1.46Gb
  • Double-click on the extracted ‘setup.exe’ file
  • Click the '+' to expand the menu - then select the latest version of 'ERDAS Foundations' and click 'Install'
  • Click ‘Install’, ‘Next’ and accept the licence agreement when prompted. Then click 'Install'.
  • This will install the downloaded and extracted software.
  • Browse to http://download.hexagongeospatial.com/
  • Select 'ERDAS IMAGINE' in the 'Product Family'
  • Click on ‘Download Now’ for the latest ERDAS Imagine and then complete the form.
  • Save the downloaded file to a known location.
  • Create a folder called 'Imagine' in a known location
  • Double click the downloaded file to open it and then select 'Extract all files' at the top.
  • Extract the files in the ZIP file to the 'Imagine' folder you have just created. This will be expand to around 1.46Gb
  • Double-click on the extracted ‘setup.exe’ file
  • Click the '+' to expand the menu - then 'ERDAS Imagine'- then 'Install'
  • Click ‘Install’, ‘Next’ and accept the licence agreement when prompted. Then click 'Install'.
  • This will install the downloaded and extracted software.
  • During the installation Wizard, ensire all your required 'Additional Features' are selected to install.
  • When prompted, tick to 'Associate File Formats' -then 'Close'

You must licence your new copy of ERDAS IMAGINE, and LPS if installed

Once you have installed IMAGINE, you'll need to find your Composite ID. To do this, go to Start > All Programs > Intergraph Licensing 11.10.1> Intergraph License Host ID.

Send the composite ID to software@exeter.ac.uk from your university email address. You will then receive a license file.

  • Save the Licence File from your email to a known location.
  • Now go to Start > All Programs > Intergraph Licensing 11.10.1> Intergraph License Administration.
  • Go to File > Import Licence File... and select your saved licence file.
  • Close the Licence Administration program. You’re now licensed and ready to use IMAGINE.
