Support for students affected by current international incidents

Following the earthquake and tsunami which hit Japan on March 11th, the level of uncertainty about the long term impact remains high, especially in respect of possible radiation leaks from the Fukushima nuclear power plant.  The University has made efforts to ensure that all students who may be affected by these events, either directly or indirectly, are aware of the support services available to them at this difficult time.

Continuing civil unrest in Libya and other Middle Eastern countries also prolongs anxieties for students with connections to those regions, and this may also be the case in respect of similar unrest in other parts of the world.

The Student Services team continues to make efforts to ensure that all students affected by international incidents receive appropriate and timely support, and we are liaising with staff in Colleges and other services to make sure this support is in place.

Contact details for Support Services

Students who are affected by the above events may need support during these difficult times. Some may receive this support from friends, or from tutors and other staff in their Colleges. Some may wish to contact Student Support Services such as Counselling or Chaplaincy in order to talk through their concerns and feelings in a completely confidential setting. Wherever possible these services will make provision and offer priority appointments for those who are directly affected by these international situations.
