Interactive Web APP supports events at Exeter food festival

The University of Exeter is involved in the launch and development of an interactive Web App, Placeify which is being used at this year’s Exeter Festival of South West Food and Drink.

Placeify enables visitors to comment about and interact with the three day event at Exeter Castle and Northernhay Gardens from 25th –27th April 2014.

Visitors to the Festival can connect to Placeify on their mobile phones and see comments from other visitors and images in real time within a social media community created specifically for the Exeter Food Festival.

Placeify stems from current App related research by University of Exeter postgraduate researcher Will Barrett working with Professor Gabriella Giannachi from the University’s Centre for Intermedia, and 1010 Media.

Will Barrett said:“Placeify is a social media community that is central to one specific place. As part of the Exeter food festival it will enable people to play a bigger part in the festival and the temporary community within it.”

Prizes will be offered for the best comments and photographs uploaded to Placeify for each of the Food Festival feature activities including the Food and Drink Pavilions, Food is Fun Teepees, Little Cookies area, Festival Bars, live music main stage, Grow your Own and the Cookery Demonstration Theatre.

The Exeter Festival of South West Food & Drink will be the first time that the public will be able to use the Placeify Web App. Details of how to connect to Placeify will be available upon entry to the Festival.

The Exeter Festival of South West Food & Drink is now in its eleventh year and is a not for profit event.
