All welcome for family-friendly University fun day

Join the University of Exeter for a free family fun day as part of its diamond jubilee celebrations, and try your hand at a range of activities ranging from tennis tasters to hands-on experiments.

The family Community Day will take place at the University’s Streatham Campus on Sunday 20 March between 12 and 4pm and has been designed to please all ages.

Parking and admission will be free and people are being encouraged to picnic in the award-winning grounds or buy hot food from the farmers market. You can also take part in sessions that will include football skills with Exeter City football club, archery, touch rugby, ultimate Frisbee, cake and biscuit decorating, face painting and a treasure hunt.

Entertainment will include live performances, a steel band, Disney A Capella, a flute choir, fun kitchen sessions and a bouncy castle.

The event will feature two tours of the award-winning campus, covering history, botany, ecology and art as well as rare plants and an insight into how the campus grounds are managed and maintained. (These will need to be pre-booked – details available below.)

Throughout the day academics will host interactive stands and give a series of talks on their most recent and exciting projects from world-leading research areas, and will explain how the University benefits the local community and the world.

Professor Sir Steve Smith, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Exeter, will introduce the day. He said: “We are delighted to invite everyone to our biggest campus to celebrate our work within the community and the excellent relationships we have built together to ensure the University of Exeter remains at the heart of this great city. We have always been proud of our heritage and the continued support and engagement from our local community has contributed to our success.

“We have lots to celebrate at the University, and this event allows us to give something to local people in return for that support. It will be a fun and lively way for local people to gain insight into what goes on at the University and to experience our beautiful campus and grounds.”

Sir Steve’s introduction will be followed by a presentation of the ‘Exeter oak’ Community Tree which will be accepted as a gift from the University by the Lord Mayor on behalf of the City of Exeter.

Campus tours will take place at 12.45 and 2.15pm. To book your campus tour please contact grounds@exeter.ac.uk by 17 March, stating your name, number of guests and your preferred time-slot. Pre-book your tour and you will be entered into the draw to win a beautiful floral bouquet on the day.
