CANCELLED: Understanding the relationships between risk factors, intersectional identities and criminal career trajectories: A multilevel approach

Guest Speaker Dr Ben Matthews, University of Edinburgh

Researchers have called for developmental criminologists to better understand how criminal career patterns and 'risk factors' relate to intersectional identities.

Event details

To examine how 'risk factors' for different conviction trajectories interact with intersectional identities, we apply a multilevel approach to modelling intersectionality developed in epidemiology (specifically, Multilevel Analysis of Individual Heterogeneity and Discriminatory Accuracy, or MAIHDA) to model the relationships between sex, Indigenous Status, childhood risk factors and criminal convictions trajectories. We fit these models to data from the Queensland Linkage Project, a large-scale linked administrative dataset which contains information on people born in 1983 and 1984 who have come into contact with a number of administrative bodies in Queensland, Australia. In this talk we will present preliminary findings from the analysis and discuss the practical challenges of fitting and interpreting MAIHDA models.
