Abstract

The generation and maintenance of sharp boundaries that demarcate distinct territories is crucial for the formation of organised tissues. In some tissues, the boundary also forms a signalling centre that regulates patterning. This talk will discuss our studies of the zebrafish hindbrain which have elucidated mechanisms of cell segregation and identity regulation that underlie boundary formation, and how distinct boundary cells form at segment borders.
