Are you a Social Sciences or Law Early Career Researcher or PhD student looking to engage with companies?  The Universities of Exeter & Bristol and the SWDTP are collaborating to provide this fully funded training programme that will equip participants with the tools, skills and confidence required to work more effectively with or in industry. It provides a working knowledge of key business issues that impact commercial organisations, which is valuable whether you plan to pursue a career in industry or collaborate with industry as part of a career in academic research.

Content

Connecting with Industry is a certificated, interactive on-line programme that equips participants with the tools, skills and confidence required to work more effectively with or in industry. It provides a working knowledge of key business issues that impact commercial organisations, which is valuable whether you plan to pursue a career in industry or collaborate with industry as part of a career in academic research.


Conversations with Industry is a series of facilitated group discussions with professionals experienced working in, or with industry in a variety of different roles. The “Conversations” are live and interactive with diverse guests who provide context, inspiration and real-world stories that bring key learnings to life. The “Conversations” also offer the opportunity for participants to expand their network and build relationships with key industry contacts.


The optional mentor coaching session following the training will offer participants one-to-one guidance immediately relevant to their personal situation. This helps build momentum in a specific area, whether it’s exploring career options, starting a business, commercialising research or connecting with potential partners. This provides an opportunity to gain additional insight, receive individual feedback and expand your network and connections in industry. Coaching is a proven approach to drive rich learning and development and can have a significant impact on your progression after the programme.

Delivery

This training programme will be delivered by Skillfluence, specialists in transferable skills training that equips Researchers to work with others, both inside and outside of academia.
Zoom will be used for live sessions, mentoring conversations will take place on Zoom, Teams, Skype or by phone.

  • Pre-course content & course schedule made available prior to course
  • 6  live weekly sessions with 4 x Conversations (weeks 2-5)
  • Post-session tasks to apply learning to own situation, generate outputs and find relevance
  • Submission of outputs for certification at the end of the programme
  • • Optional Mentor Coaching Conversations offered in week 7/8, bookings open approximately week 4.

Registration

30 places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
You must be able to attend all sessions (excluding optional mentoring).
