Let’s talk about DISH, shall we? Dismantling myths and building on evidence

with Dr Laura Castells Navarro (University of Exeter)

Aileen Fox Research seminar. Clinically, diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH) is a well-recognised condition associated to obesity and the metabolic syndrome; however, its identification in archaeological human remains is still contested. This talk will look at what we think we know about DISH in human remains, and how new data may change the way we look at it and interpret its presence in ancient populations. Dr Laura Castells Navarro is a Lecturer in Archaeology at the University of Exeter. Her research combines clinical and palaeopathological research, with archaeology and history to investigate health and disease in past populations.
