Cornwall's Climate Assembly
Bringing the public, researchers and policymakers together to inform action on climate change
In the wake of COP26, The Institute of Cornish Studies is holding a Climate Change Assembly, which will consider the big questions that we need to address in Cornwall, if we are to become more sustainable.

Event details
For the online event, participants will be introduced to a range of climate issues, before discussing and presenting these to a panel of policymakers and environmental organisations.
Four University of Exeter academics will give insight into a particular area of relevance to the climate emergency, which participants will then get the chance to discuss. Professor Clare Saunders will present the case for sustainable clothing; Professor Juliet Osborne will explore how we can protect our pollinators; Professor Steffen Boehm will show how we can better re-use our resources in a circular economy; Professor Ian Ashton will discuss marine renewables; and Professor Caitlin DeSilvey will examine the relationship between heritage and climate change.
Participants will respond to this by working in groups to consider the priorities and solutions that we might collectively adopt, in order to tackle climate change in Cornwall and beyond.
In the final part of the session, participants will present their conclusions to a panel of environment policymakers and organisations, which includes:

- Lizzy Carlyle (Head of Environmental Practices for the National Trust)
- Martin Alvey (Cornwall Council)
- Fiona Watton (Chief Executive at Creative Kernow)
