About this event:
Given the importance of dairy, livestock and horticulture farming in our region, there is an urgent need to find ways to incorporate renewable energy, increase carbon sequestration and reduce chemical inputs to farming.
Who should attend?
This event is aimed at anyone interested in new research collaborations and innovation in relation to farming, energy, food systems, the ecological impact of agriculture, soil health and net zero.
What are the aims?
Our event will open with a showcase of the long-running partnership between the University/ESI and Bennamann Ltd to develop energy independent farming, focused on the dairy sector. This has involved embedding research in the process of business development to incorporate on-site renewable resources in combination with animal waste streams (biogas) to supply all the energy needed to successful operate a farming business. This delivers high value green energy products (biogas and liquid biofuel) to provide an income stream to the farm business while also improving the sustainability of farm land use through the minimisation of artificial inputs (e.g. pesticide and artificial fertiliser use). We will also hear about further innovations in the transition towards net zero agriculture, including work on carbon sequestration and the production of more sustainable animal feed.
