Author of ‘Pearls Before Poppies and ‘The Churchill Girls’ (both subject of Exe-X talks) Devon historian Rachel Trethewey will discuss her book ‘Before Wallis: Edward VIII’s Other Women’. Could Rosemary Leveson Gower, the first love of Edward’s life, have provided the emotional stability he needed? What was Edward’s involvement with Africa’s notorious Happy Valley set? With contemporary royal troubles in mind, what does Rachel’s research tell us about the Royal Family’s attitudes and what, if anything, has changed?

A post-talk discussion with Rachel will explore some of these issues and the event is a great opportunity to meet fellow female graduates.
