EUC Exeter Branch: Visit and tour of Castle Drogo

The Exeter Branch of the Exeter University Club has organised a visit to Castle Drogo, near Drewsteignton. This is the follow up to the talk by Paula Clarke in April and an opportunity to visit the castle and get a closer look at the works in progress.

Event details

During our visit we will be taken on a guided tour, including a peep behind the scenes, and get to see a heritage building site in action. The inside of the castle has been transformed with protection work in place, collections packed away and the story of how this castle was built being told. Weather permitting, the 20 metre viewing tower will be open and you will be able to climb above the roof and see the work taking place.

Meet from 12pm onwards for lunch in the cafeteria-restaurant at 12:30. Lunch is followed by a guided tour of the building at 2pm with the opportunity to view the building and the restoration work from a viewing platform.

To register for this event, please contact Ian Thomson using the email address at the bottom of this page by Sunday 15th June at the very latest. We also need the number requiring lunch for restaurant reservation.

The EUC is a friendly club for alumni, graduates and retired staff of Exeter University and their families. As well as those who have studied or worked on the Streatham Campus, this also includes St Luke’s and the Tremough Campus, the former Camborne School of Mines, the Medical School and the (pre 1955) University College of the South West of England.

Further details of forthcoming Exeter Branch events can be found on the branch's website. To find out about membership and joining the club, please contact the Secretary, Mike Aspray at eucexeterbranch@gmail.com.
