Monogenic diabetes: Effectively translating genetic information into clinical care

Maggie qualified as a Registered General Nurse in London in 1984 and worked as a  Diabetes Specialist Nurse prior to moving to Exeter in 1995 to join the monogenic diabetes team.

She obtained her PhD in Medical Science in 2000, increasing understanding of the impact of a diagnosis of monogenic diabetes. 

Maggie has performed key research in this field publishing  more than 90 papers (more than 30 first author). Maggie’s emphasis has been using genetic knowledge to improve clinical care and patient experience.  She has established a national network of genetic diabetes nurses who have provided education and clinical expertise in monogenic diabetes across their regions since 2002.
