Date11 June 2016

This one day symposium aims to bring together international and UK scholars from different disciplines to discuss and reflect upon current research on China’s interaction with other cultures since the late 19th century in fields such as science, social science, literature and art. We are keen to investigate the trends and patterns of cultural and knowledge exchanges between China and other cultures and to explore the approaches and methodologies that have been applied by researchers to understand and analyse them.

The symposium programme will include discussions focusing on the following areas:

  • Early counters between China and Europe
  • Histories of landscape exchange between China and Europe
  • Translation and Chinese history of Sexuality
  • Circulation of political concepts in modern China

The seminars are free and open to the public. If you are interested in attending, please email Ji Yerong  by 25 May 2016, and we will send you a detailed programme soon.

With generous support from the College of Humanities at University of Exeter, we are able to provide financial support to two UK-based MA students who are interested in the topic of this symposium to cover their attendance costs (return train ticket).
