Curating Curiosity

A conversation between David Lockwood and Dr Bryan Brown

Event details

Who should attend?

Anyone interested in attending a research seminar conversation between; Bryan Brown, Lecturer and creator of ARTEL and David Lockwood, Director of the Department’s external partner The Bike Shed Theatre.

What is the event about?

In his forthcoming book “A History of the Theatre Laboratory”, Bryan Brown, expands on notions of curiosity and exploration to consider the organising models and principles of laboratories in science, visual art and theatre.  These principles were enacted in his co-leadership of Schkapf performance incubation house in Los Angeles, California from 2013-2015.

Dipping into the history of laboratories and Renaissance understandings of curiosity and wonder, maybe even a little British gardening, David and Bryan will discuss their experiences of leading artistic and cultural incubators and the lessons learned from mentoring artists, building funding partnerships, responding to community values and needs, and all the other attendant necessities of cultivating curious spirits.

Programme

An imaginative Q&A is anticipated with refreshments to follow.
