South West Alumnae Group Networking Evening - November

The South West Alumnae Group would like to invite female graduates to their monthly informal networking evenings in Exeter. This will be a brilliant opportunity to network with fellow graduates in the local area.

This month the Group will be welcoming Jenny Balfour-Paul to give a short talk on her experiences as an author and traveller.

Jenny Balfour Paul, writer, artist, international lecturer and intrepid traveller, is author of two classic books on Indigo and the acclaimed Deeper than Indigo: tracing Thomas Machell (Medina Publications 2015).

She was consultant curator for the Whitworth Art gallery’s 2007 touring exhibition ‘Indigo, a Blue to Dye For’ and consultant for two documentary films.

Jenny is an alumna and Honorary Research Fellow at Exeter University; Fellow, Councillor and Trustee of the Royal Geographical Society; Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society and New York’s Explorers Club; President of the UK’s Association of Guilds of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers and a partner in ‘Silk Road Connect’, an educational initiative launched by cellist Yo Yo Ma’s Silk Road Project in New York in 2009.

She researches dyes recovered from shipwrecks and promotes revivals of natural dyes worldwide. Her collections of Arab and indigo-dyed textiles and related artefacts are held in major UK museums.
