An App a Day Keeps the Doctor Away

Part of the ESRC Festival of Social Science

Event details

Who should attend?

This event is aimed at families with young children (it's suitable for children as young as 4 years old), as well as school and / or college students. Adults are welcome too!

Event overview

At this event we will explore the psychology of eating behaviour, what a healthy diet looks like, and how we can train our brain to make healthier food choices using computer games.

This interactive exhibition for families and young people explores healthy eating and how to resist temptation. Our aim is to share the latest research on why we overeat and how we can boost our self-control in order to achieve a healthy diet.

We also want to hear your ideas about how you do (or don't) resist temptation and gather your feedback on the games and apps we are developing in our research.

So please come along and have a go at the famous 'marshmallow test' of self-control, try our brain-training computer games, taste some healthy treats, and help us make a giant 3D eat well plate out of scrap!

What will you gain from the event?

At this event you will gain an increased understanding of why we overeat, how we can resist temptation, and how to have a healthier diet.

We hope audience members will improve their understanding both of what a healthy diet is and what strategies and techniques (like brain-training) they can try to help boost their self-control around food.
