Event details
From Don DeLillo’s Libra to The West Wing, the U.S. Presidency has long been a thematic preoccupation in U.S. writing and screen culture. Dr. Sinéad Moynihan and Dr. Paul Williams, specialists in twentieth and twenty-first century American literature, will consider the role that the U.S. Presidency has played in the cultural imagination. The focus of the talk will be on speculative or counter-factual literary narratives of the U.S. Presidency (by Irving Wallace and Philip Roth) and on fictional characters from comics who have run for President (especially Pogo the Possum and Wonder Wart-Hog).
