Insights into ‘City on the Hill’ book on the history of the University of Exeter, by Jeremy Black, Professor of History

In 1955 the former College of the South West was granted a royal charter and became the University of Exeter.  Its development over the subsequent six decades is the subject of this book…the history of an institution that is also a community, a focus of teaching and research set within a particular environment but also part of the wider world.

Alumni are welcome to come along to enjoy the opportunity to reminisce about their experience of University life.  This talk will have a particular emphasis on the era spanning the 1950s, 1960s and early 1970s to coincide with the University welcoming a visiting group of alumni who studied during these years, although all alumni are very welcome to attend.

Professor Jeremy Black is a leading scholar in the field of British history and has been Established Chair in History at the University of Exeter since 1996.  He is a prolific author writing on a wide range of topics, including maps and history, why wars happen, and history of the British Isles.
