Dubious Distinctions: Why Europe, not China was Responsible for the Great Divergence?

Professor Michael Adas is the Abraham E. Voorhees Professor and Board of Governor’s Chair at Rutgers University. His books include Machines as the Measure of Men: Science, Technology, and Ideologies of Western Dominance (1989) and Dominance by Design: Technology, Social Engineering and America’s Civilizing Mission (2006). His talk will be related to a collaborative book project he is currently working on. It will focus on the early modern developments in Western Europe and China.
