Event details

About Comex 3:

In 1969 Comex 3, having raised 20 contingents based on UK universities, travelled overland from Britain, across Europe, through Asia Minor, Iran, Afghanistan and through the Khyber pass into Pakistan and on into India. In India they fanned out to schools and universities over the subcontinent, meeting students, putting on plays and musical performances and generally sharing experiences. Returning to Delhi a large festival had been organised by the Comex India Committee at the Rabindra Ranshala a large open-air theatre close to the city centre. For three nights the Expedition and students from Indian Universities put on a show of plays, music and dance. The expedition was granted a reception by the President of India in his residence in New Delhi where students from both British and Indian universities performed together. The expedition travelled back by the same route arriving back in the UK in October 2019. It was an amazing experience for all the participants which many have never forgotten.

The contingents were: Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Cardiff, Durham, Edinburgh, Exeter, Glasgow, Keele, Kent, Lancaster, Leicester, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Newcastle, Oxford, St. Andrews, Sussex, Yorkshire. Although they were based around the universities the participants included many non-students from the regions represented.
