Engineering students showcase their wares to industry experts

Budding engineers at the University of Exeter showcased a range of innovative projects including a drone, a knee bracing system, a climbing robot and an ice-cream dispenser to industry experts at a special event.

The 70 Master of Engineering (MEng) students from across a range of disciplines presented their group work as posters, displays and presentations, to representatives from the Met Office, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Devon County Council, Exeter College, and others.

The day-long event, which took place at the University’s Streatham campus, was an opportunity for students to show off their project work and to network with industry contacts.

Professor James Brownjohn, lead academic for the project, said: “The group project presentation day is a culmination of months of effort and teamwork on the part of our final year Engineering students.

“It is an opportunity for the students to hone their team working and presentation skills, as well as to demonstrate the practical skills they have developed over the four years of their degree course, not only to their fellow students, academic judges and other University staff, but also to representatives from industry.

“It was a fantastic event and the students produced some excellent project work. The judges and external visitors were very impressed with some of the innovative and imaginative contraptions the students had designed and created.”
