Exeter retains top 15 place in Guardian University Guide 2023

The University of Exeter has retained its place amongst the top 15 UK universities in the influential Guardian University Guide 2023.

Exeter was ranked in 15th place in the latest guide, published today (September 24th 2022). Universities are ranked according to a number of factors, including teaching excellence, student satisfaction and career prospects.

The influential guide is accompanied by rankings showing how universities perform across the main subject areas, with Exeter enjoying considerable success.

Two subjects were ranked in the top five, a further seven secured places in the top 10, while there were 12 subjects ranked between 11th and 20th.

Drama and Dance was the highest-ranking subject, securing 1st place in the tables, while Zoology (3rd) also featured in the top 5.

General Engineering (7th), Theology (7th), Earth and Marine Sciences (8th), Criminology (8th), Psychology (9th), Mechanical Engineering (10th), and Film Studies (10th) complete the subjects ranked across the top 10.

English is ranked 11th, Politics 12th, Accounting and Finance 13th, and Sociology, Classics and Ancient History and Anthropology and Archaeology all placed 14th.

History of Art secured 16th position, Biomedical Science, Philosophy and Computer Science all placed 18th, while Biology and Health Professions were both ranked 19th, completing the top 20 positions for the University.

These are the latest rankings this year that reflect Exeter’s position amongst the world’s leading universities. Earlier this month, Exeter was runner-up in the University of the Year award, and placed 13th overall, in the The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2023.

The University broke into the top 150 in the QS World University Rankings for the first time, securing 149th position in the latest table, while the University was also ranked as the 46th most international university worldwide, based on data from the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

Student satisfaction at the University of Exeter was also recognised as the best of any Russell Group university in the National Student Survey (NSS) 2022, published in July.
