Innovative IKEEP programme secures two national educator awards

An innovative ‘intrapreneurial’ student training programme led by the University of Exeter has secured two top prizes at a prestigious national award ceremony.

The Intrapreneurial Knowledge Exchange Enterprise Pathway (IKEEP) programme won the Enterprise Catalyst and the People’s Choice awards at the National Enterprise Educator Awards 2022, held recently.

The Enterprise Catalyst award is given for delivering “exceptional enterprise education or practice inside or outside the curriculum”, while the People’s Choice award is given following an online, public vote.

IKEEP is a free training programme, delivered online, that focuses on intrapreneurial skills such as business model development, creative problem solving and team working. Students receive 10-12 hours of free intrapreneurial training delivered by the SETSquared team, the Global #1 University Business Incubator,  as well as the opportunity to work for a partner organisation on a real project brief.

To date, the IKEEP programme has successfully trained more than 2,100 students across the universities of Bath, Bristol, Exeter and Surrey; and supported more than 500 students through 174 Knowledge Exchange Projects in collaboration with industry partners.

The value of the IKEEP programme to the development and delivery of enterprise education and entrepreneurship education can be found in its analysis of students’ motivating factors for participating, its insights into students’ career plans and the impact of training and KEPs, and its evidence of intrapreneurship education as a gateway to broadening students’ understanding of entrepreneurship.

Joe Pearce from the University of Exeter said: “IKEEP has been a tremendous addition to the entrepreneurial programmes offered at Exeter, as well as the other project partners. Students have told us that they really value the chance to learn and develop entrepreneurial skills while working in small teams on real life projects, and the host companies see massive benefits in having multi-disciplinary teams of students working in the business”
