Undergraduate
Direct entry
If you have already completed your A levels or the International Baccalaureate Diploma, you will be eligible for direct entry if you meet your chosen programme’s entry requirements. These are shown on the course pages of the University’s website and in the undergraduate prospectus. You can apply through UCAS.
Foundation Year entry
If you have completed Japanese High School with the Kotogakko Sotsugyo Shomeisho, or if your grades do not quite meet our entry requirements, you will need to take a Foundation Year programme to be eligible for entry on an undergraduate programme, such as INTO’s International Foundation Year, available on the Exeter campus.
Postgraduate
For direct entry onto our Masters programmes you will be required to hold a relevant Bachelors degree with a grade equivalent to a UK Second-class honours (2:1 or 2:2). Check individual programme pages for exact requirements to your course.
Applicants will require a degree (Gakushi) from a recognised Japanese University with grades ranging from 60-100%, with grade equivalents as follows:
2.1 Class equivalent bandwidth | 2.2 Class equivalent bandwidth |
---|---|
70-79% or B+, B GPA 3.0 - 3.69/4.0 |
60-69% or B-, C+ 2.5 - 2.99/4.0 |
If you are interested in our Finance or Management Masters programmes but do not quite meet our entry requirements, you may be able to gain entry by first attaining a Graduate Diploma through INTO, which you can read more about here.
For entry onto postgraduate research programmes, you will need to hold a relevant Masters degree, supported by a strong research proposal.
For more information, please visit our postgraduate applications page.
Fee status
Your fee status will depend on where you are from. When students apply, they are classified as "Home/EU" if they are from the UK or from the European Union, and "International" if they are from elsewhere. If you are not sure whether your fee status is "Home/EU" or "International", read this advice from The Complete University Guide.
Tuition fees
Fees vary by programme and will be detailed in the offer letter you will receive after you have applied. Fees are not fixed at the point of entry for all years of study: there may be a small increase year-on-year for courses which are over one year in duration. For more information, please see our .
Living costs
The University recommends that single students allow at least £1,015 per month for living costs, which includes accommodation, food and books, but not travel to/from the UK. Students with families (a spouse and children) should allow additional resources for each dependant. You can find more details about living costs on our International Student Support webpages. If you need a visa to study in the UK, for yourself and/or your dependants, you should familiarise yourself with UK Visas and Immigration's (UKVI's) financial requirements.
Scholarships
There are many funding and scholarship opportunities available to international students - find out more about these on our searchable funding database. The British Council can also provide more information about funding schemes.
The International Student Support Office is here to help you with your immigration enquiries for the UK - from your initial application for a Tier 4 (General) Student visa to study your first course at Exeter, to visas for working after your studies.
Immigration is changing all the time, it is therefore extremely important that students keep up-to-date with the newest regulations when applying for their visas and access the free specialist immigration advice that we offer. See our Applying for a Visa pages for more information.
The University of Exeter offers a wide selection of university accommodation, on and off campus, to suit all tastes and budgets.
Accommodation is guaranteed for:
- new, unaccompanied first year undergraduates
- international fee-paying unaccompanied first year postgraduates
- full year Erasmus/Study Abroad students
as long as applications are received by the deadline of 31st July.
When you apply for accommodation, please note, you do NOT have to hold an Unconditional offer to submit your application: as long as your response is Firm, you will still be able to apply, even if your offer from the University of Exeter is Conditional. However, a room will not be allocated to you until all the conditions of your offer have been met.
Undergraduate students have a choice of catered or self-catered accommodation. There is a broad range of options: twin rooms, single studio bedrooms with bathroom and kitchen attached, and more. Postgraduate, Study Abroad and Erasmus students can only apply for self-catered accommodation.
For full details of the options available, as well as prices, facilities and 360-degree virtual tours of some of the rooms, visit our .
Students who would like to rent private, rather than University-run, accommodation can use the Accommodation Office's online database of privately rented accommodation. Visit the "Private Housing" section of the accommodation pages for details.
Contact
