The Law pathway is aimed at expanding the traditional assertion of ‘I want to be a Lawyer’ or similar, to a study of the different areas of Law and different career options available within the field. The objective of the course is to help students understand what is involved in a study of Law and to help prepare them by giving students a basic understanding of different areas and an insight into the challenges and rewards the different specialisms can provide.
Visits from professionals in different areas of Law will also help the students to get an idea of what they would like to do with their future as well as the route into the profession.
Example topics covered include*:
- Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights
- Client Interviews
- The Law of War
- Criminal Court Cases
- Mock Trials
- International Maritime Law
- The Law and Autonomous Vehicles
- Tort Law
- Family Law
- Environmental Law
*Please note that these topics are subject to change
The pathway also includes visits to local law offices and talks with large law firms and a visit to the Magistrates Court to witness a court case and speak to the judge.
The challenge of the Law pathway is focused on a mock trial and takes the students through the process to interviewing witnesses until the financial judicial judgement.
