Research
C-MEP members – staff and students – cover most countries of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region as well as a wide range of topics, including, but not limited to, party politics, foreign policy, migration and drugs policy. Some C-MEP research focuses on current affairs, but we also cover the colonial era and the times long before that. Our definition of what constitutes Middle East politics is thus consciously broad with a view to better our understanding of political events and processes in the MENA, past and present.
C-MEP research strengths are located within four themes. See the themes below where you will find further information about the people, publications and projects associated with that particular area of research.
- Conflict, security and state building
- Authoritarianism and democracy
- The politics of empire, post-colonialism and de-colonization
- Gender, migration and inclusivity
- Gulf and Iran
- Levant
- North Africa
