At the end of their life on the main sequence, when their hydrogen reserve in their core is at an end, stars evolve towards the red giant branch (RGB). During this phase mixed modes are formed as a consequence of the coupling between the gravity modes in the radiative interior and the acoustic modes in the outer convective region. These mixed modes thus offer the incredible opportunity to probe the whole interior of RGB stars. In 2011, at the 4th KASC-4 meeting in Boulder (USA), García et al. presented two RGB stars observed by Kepler with particularly low-amplitude dipolar modes. This new oscillators has been classified as depressed stars. Today, the mechanism behind this phenomenon is not yet known. Arthur is currently working on identifying other stars with these anomalies in order to understand this mechanism. In correspondence with Arthur, Leo presented at the Galerie Axolotl (Toulon, France) a series of works inspired by this topic. Inaugurated in February 2020, this exhibition is the result of a two-month artistic residency at Le Port des Créateurs (Toulon) on the theme of relationship between art and science.

In this talk, we will present a new method of classification of red giant stars based on convolutional neural networks as well as the different mechanisms suggested at the origin of the depression of this modes. We will then present the work done during the artistic residence at Le Port des Créateurs and the resulting exhibition.
